About your role as VP of Engineering
As the VP of Engineering at Vaadin, you will oversee and manage all aspects of our engineering department. With your solid technical background and collaborative mindset, you will play a key role in leading the development of our technology strategy, driving innovation, delivering high-quality software products, and effectively managing a team of talented engineers.
Your deep understanding of software development practices and tools, coupled with your inclusive approach to fostering team cohesion, will be instrumental in achieving our organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit, hire, train, and mentor a high-performing team of software engineers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture that promotes creativity and growth.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product roadmaps, prioritize projects, and ensure timely and successful delivery of software solutions.
- Improve the developer experience by understanding their unique needs, pain points, and workflows, collaborating with product management and design teams to improve the usability, efficiency, and effectiveness of developer-facing software products.
- Establish and optimize software development processes, methodologies, and standards aligned with industry best practices.
- Define and execute the long-term technology strategy, evaluating and selecting appropriate tools and technologies.
- Ensure robust quality assurance processes, including testing and code review practices, specific to software development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree is a plus).
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role focused on software development.
- Solid technical background and expertise in software development methodologies, tools, and best practices, with a must-have experience in Java.
- Demonstrated success in managing and leading high-performing software engineering teams.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic thinking and ability to align engineering initiatives with business objectives.
- Experience in driving innovation and adapting to evolving software development trends, especially within Java and JavaScript communities.
- In-depth knowledge of developer tools, frameworks, and technologies used in Java-based business applications.
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle, version control systems, and software testing methodologies.
