What do we do?

ICEYE is building and operating its commercial constellation of small Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites with SAR data available to customers. Our satellites acquire images of Earth at any time even when it’s cloudy or dark providing commercial and government partners with unmatched persistent monitoring capabilities. Information derived from our SAR images helps customers make data-driven decisions to address time-critical challenges in various sectors, such as maritime, disaster management, insurance, and finance.

What are we looking for?

To support the company’s growth, we are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our FSW Apps team. You will report to the FSW Bus Team Lead in this position.


Responsibilities
  • Key player enabling ICEYE to migrate from our legacy solution to a well defined, flexible architecture in the satellite.
  • You will be in a key role for the design and development of OBC application layer SW
    • Design and define the application architecture inside the Satellite
      • Transition to an event driven architecture
      • Collaborate with the subsystem layer developers to enforce consistency of the APIs exposed by HW Subsystem Services
        • Asynchronous methods to design-in concurrency =gt; to maximise fleet utilization and burn the metal hot
    • Design and define the interface between the Satellite and Fleet Control
      • Choose the right technologies balancing the bandwidth amp; latency constraints with flexibility and future-proofness
  • Drive the execution of the OBC application layer with hands-on technical leadership
  • Demonstrate leadership by driving cross-team collaboration within ICEYE
  • Mentor other members of the development team

Requirements

  • Systems thinking / systems design
  • Able to see the big picture quickly and communicate it clearly
  • Dealing with conflicting requirements and proposing well-balanced solutions
  • Excellent in first principles thinking, able to go to the fundamentals when designing things and challenging the status quo- A skilled communicator (both verbal and written) who collaborates smoothly and impacts other ICEYE teams effectively
  • Experience with vertical E2E solutions, not just focused on one layer of the stack
  • Balancing between generic and specific solutions based on the context
  • A talented C++ and/or Python developer, familiar with the latest features of those languages
  • Proficient in Object Oriented Modelling, but can also apply Functional Programming techniques when appropriate
  • Lots of experience developing applications, also in constrained environments such as IoT, robotics, and/or automotive- Bread and butter in event-driven architectures
  • Intimately familiar with Microservices Architecture, its benefits, and caveats
  • Strong understanding of asynchronous mechanisms and concurrency
  • Works well in a constrained environment and can design solutions that efficiently use the available resources
  • Able to spend time in the problem space and resist the urge to jump to the solution space too quickly
  • Good understanding and hands-on experience with a wide range of protocols, architecture styles, and technologies.
  • Examples include MQTT, DDS, ZeroMQ, REST, security protocols, time series databases, structured data representation languages, IETF specs, web technologies, ROS.Worked with (embedded) Linux.Familiar with all standard industry tools and practices, such as git, GitHub CI, test methodologies, JIRA, agile.
