We are looking for a Backend Data Engineer to join our Tech team in Helsinki. Built from scratch by using the latest cloud-native and serverless technologies, the backend platform presents a challenge and opportunity to learn even for the most experienced developers. In this role, you will provide hands-on and strategic support in delivering necessary product components and work with the Data Team to ensure we have necessary, sufficient data infrastructure in place to fulfill our data analysis and insights requirements, from democratizing data to delivering insight to supporting the company in product experimentation.
We are looking for someone with advanced knowledge of both backend infrastructure and data architecture and offer an opportunity to help shape MaaS Global’s data agenda and ensure that we are making informed decisions.

Main Responsibilities
- Drive the data architecture of the production database.
- Maintain and oversee the development of our data lake, data warehouse, and data pipeline.
- Serve as a liaison between the Tech and Data Teams.
What you need in order to be successful in this role:
- 2 or more years of experience in writing NodeJS-based backend services.
- Keeping up to date with the latest in the development space with side projects, Github contributions, and following the wider Javascript or Typescript ecosystem.
- Working knowledge of AWS managed services such as Lambda, Fargate, Aurora, Kinesis and API Gateway.
- Experience in creating location-based services.
- Demonstrated experience with Python, R, SQL or TypeScript.
- Develop, construct, test, and maintain architectures, aligning architecture with business requirements.
- Data acquisition and developing data set processes; identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality.
- Strong communication skills in English.
Nice-to-haves:
- Writing serverless apps.
- Experience in using Machine Learning in real life.
- Experience in mobility services, e.g., routing or transit ticketing.
- Knowledge of and practical experience with Agile Methodologies.
- Knowledge of Data visualization tools, esp. Tableau.
