We are looking for a Chief Compliance Officer to lead our Compliance Team in our company in Ruoholahti, right in the heart of Helsinki! LocalBitcoins is a globally leading P2P trading platform for bitcoin and one of the founding pillars of the Bitcoin economy. LocalBitcoins was founded in 2012 and has since grown to over 8 000 000 registered users from all over the world. LocalBitcoins is registered with and operates under the supervision of the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority and is one of the first companies who received the registration of a virtual currency provider in Finland in November 2019. This means that the company is compliant with the Finnish Act on Virtual Currency Providers e.g. makes sure that the relevant anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing related regulation is applied in the Company. In addition to the registration, LocalBitcoins has had a lot of cooperation with the authorities in Finland already for several years and values the cooperation and generally considers that the cooperation develops the whole industry for a safe market to everybody involved. In the future, LocalBitcoins will become an even more regulated entity as the current development regarding the common framework, Markets in Cryptoassets Regulation (MiCA), is coming to the industry.
The Chief Compliance Officer together with Compliance team has two levels of responsibilities; guaranteeing that the company is conducting its business in adherence to national and international laws/regulations that pertain to its industry and also ensuring that professional standards, accepted business practices, and internal systems of control necessary to achieve compliance with the external rules are followed.
CCO is responsible for overseeing/managing the following matters:
- Ensuring that the company is complying with the Act on Virtual Currency Service Providers and related authorities guidance
- Ensuring compliance with anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing related regulation applicable to the Company
- Supervising that the company’s activities are in line with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
- Promoting good governance and best practices in general within the company by supporting the other departments
- Producing a number of reports to internal stakeholders
Requirements
Essential:
- Fluency in Finnish and English (both written and oral)
- A suitable educational background such as masters in law
- Effective communication skills
- Planning and organisational skills
- Flexible, reliable and committed team player
- At least 5 years of experience in a compliance function of a company in a regulated or supervised environment
Preferred:
- An understanding of bitcoin / desire to work in the cryptocurrency industry is considered favourable
